The 4th MAMA Meeting

The 4th MAMA Meeting was held in Rome from the 3rd to 6th June 2003


The 4th meeting of the Mediterranean network to Assess and upgrade the Monitoring and forecasting Activity in the region (MAMA) project was held in Rome from the 3rd to 6th June 2003.

In this meeting, the work conducted during the third six-month period of the project was reported and assessed in detail. There were dedicated session for each workpackage in which the WP leaders reported on the progress in their activities, discussed important scientific topics as well as finalised a schedule for the 19-24 month period.

During this MAMA meeting two additional events marked important project milestones. These consisted of:

(i) the WP2 Expert Meeting, conducted by ENEA, dealt with the scientific assessment of routine ocean monitoring systems in the Mediterranean, and planning the optimal design of the initial ocean observing system in the region, integrating open sea and coastal systems.

(ii) Launch of the CEROSPIG Demonstrator, a web-based demonstration tool developed within WP8 of the MAMA project, targeting to provide guidance and information on Integrated Coastal Zone Management and on protection from coastal erosion.

A half-day National Awareness Meeting for Italy was also held in conjunction with the 4th MAMA meeting. The main scope of the meeting was to familiarize the relevant Italian national and regional authorities and institutions with the MAMA network and its participating organisations, in view of the full day National Awareness Meeting to be organised in the coming months.
